Puukko - Nordic carving knife with hand-stitched leather sheath

Each part of this "carving knife" was crafted in many manual steps and perfectly fitted.
From the polished walnut handles, to the handcrafted saddle stitching, to the "mirror-polished" blade, a great deal of experience from the field of practical application and craftsmanship comes together in this knife.

The knife:

The blade is made of 1095 carbon steel and has a total length of approximately 18cm (7.08inch).
The ground blade portion (working part) has a length of approximately 8cm (3.15inch) and features a flat grind on both sides.
The cutting edge was ground to an extremely sharp edge on a Japanese water whetstone and then polished to a "mirror shine".
The blade spine in the working area is approximately 4mm (0.16 inch) and has no protective bevel! This was deliberately omitted to ensure the use of a firesteel.
The handle is made of walnut wood and is treated with a durable special oil.
This was then coated with a thin protective layer of natural resin and polished.
The locking pins and the collar ring are made of brass and are flush with the handle surface.
The knife weighs approximately 90g.

The leather sheath:

The knife sheath is made of vegetable-tanned cowhide leather with a smooth and a matte finish. The natural grain reveals the high quality of the material. It fits comfortably in the hand, is very stable, and at 1.5mm thick, extremely robust. It also features an extra leather cord for a belt loop, offering greater flexibility in attachment.
The leather was dyed in the color "walnut" using 100% natural, alcohol-based dyes.
A "vintage" finish seals the pores, protects the knife and sheath from moisture, and gives the entire piece a great rustic look.
The highlight was the use of the traditional "saddler's stitch"! (Each stitch contains a knot between the two pieces of leather)
This elaborate, handcrafted sewing technique guarantees a particularly long lifespan and demonstrates very high quality.

The total weight of the knife and leather sheath is approximately 110g.
