traditional fire kit
- In stock
This fire kit was compiled based on years of practical experience and in cooperation with various outdoor specialists. The main focus here is on effectiveness and packability!
The goal was to put together a fire-starting kit with traditional items that would fit in any pocket and provide the foundation for quickly starting a fire. Only natural products should be used! From the hand-stitched leather bag to the 100% beeswax candle, all items were collected from nature or assembled and crafted with skilled craftsmanship. Essentially, every ranger and bushcrafter puts together their own fire kit before heading out into the wilderness for adventure. This compilation is entirely individual and reflects personal preferences and experience. We have made it our mission to create a solid foundation for this with our kit. Each kit can be improved later and, of course, filled with other items.
There are 2 versions to choose from: Classic & Premium!
The Classic version includes basic equipment for starting a fire, while the Premium version includes a larger bag and additional types of tinder (see contents).
About the bag:
The cowhide bag was hand-stitched using a classic cross stitch made from triple-twisted waxed linen thread. One (or two) brass buttons were used as the closure. Unlike the Classic version, the larger "Premium" bag also features a sewn-in second compartment (see images) to better separate various items.
Dimensions (unfilled):
Classic: 10cm x 12cm x2cm, approx. 50g
Premium: 15cm x 10cm x 2cm, approx. 80g
About the content:
Both versions (Classic & Premium) include the following items: - Large striking iron/spark iron 9cm x 5.5cm x 0.5cm (approx. 75g) - A fragment (with sharp edges) of Baltic flint - Nitrated tinder fungus (Fomes fomentarius) - as a spark catcher (Classic: approx. 10g, Premium: approx. 15g) - sufficient for approx. 8-10 uses with sparing use - Tarred rope (hemp rope laced with birch pitch for a tinder nest) (Classic: 0.6m, ⌀4mm / Premium: 1m, ⌀4mm)
additional content in the premium set:
-Pinewood stick (approx. 10cm / 5g) - for planing and quickly feeding the base flame
-Beeswax candle (100%), (approx. L=10cm, ⌀1cm / 11g) - as a backup, to secure the generated flame
-Birch bark (dry), approx. 5g - as basic tinder in high humidity
-2x "SilentBushcraft Firepad" (cotton pads soaked in beeswax with a burning time of approx. 6-8 minutes)
Final words about the Firekit:
As already described, this collection of traditional tools and materials is designed to quickly build a fire. The preparation and building of the evening campfire is precisely what makes us love our hobby so much. Gathering, chopping, and sawing a decent pile of firewood, as well as building the tinder nest, takes time and foresight, given the natural conditions. This fire kit is primarily designed to quickly start a fire.
There are many reasons for this:
Emergency situations, signal fires, quickly needed warmth, unexpected darkness at night, etc. (All contents as well as other types of tinder are also available for purchase in the SilentBushcraft shop as supplies and individual items.)
